BOWL//NEST//VESSEL
BOWL//NEST//VESSEL was an installation piece I made for my degree show in 2021. Using naturally dyed fabric that I had previously bundled and buried, cardboard and thread, I made the bowl with the vision of sitting inside it as a place to reflect. During my years at University studying Fine Art, I became even more aware of how strongly I rely on the Natural World for creativity and drive, this spurred an intense urge to express my gratitude and reliance by making a piece using natural materials in which I could interact and reflect gratitude.

I found this process intimate and special, forever highlighting my dependency and a constant reminder to acknowledge these forces.
A few months after I graduated, I slowly took apart the BOWL//NEST//VESSEL with the intention of using the fabric for other projects, perhaps returning them to the Earth once more. This felt like an important step in finishing my time in education and moving forward, still with the same gratitude and reliance, but a new chapter none the less.

Creating bundles from drawings, found objects, naturally dyed fabric and plant matter has been an interesting process. It stemmed from the need to communicate how honoured I am to use natural materials in my work, and continued into a process in which I share my gratitude and release control.

It is unknown how the soil, bacteria, air, creatures and all else underground will effect the materials I am burying. I find this exciting and intriguing, returning to the bundle with eager eyes. Often the colours shift and oxidise, pigments bleed and blur, slowly the fabric starts to get broken down... all changes which I find inspiring and thought provoking.
